９か月連続でEPをリリースし続けるというJUZU a.k.a MOOCHYの一大プロジェクト「COUNTERPOINT EP.」シリーズもついに第九弾、最終章を迎えた。 アフリカ〜マグレブ〜アラブ〜トルコ〜インドネシア〜アイヌの音楽文化がひとつに溶け合う「EARTH DANCE」は、四つ打ちのキックに頼らずとも ダンス・トラックを作れるということを証明したものとも言えるだろうし、90年代の段階でJUZU a.k.a MOOCHYがジャングル〜ドラムンベースに 一早くガムランや尺八の音色をミックスしていたことを考えると、ここにスアール・アグンのジェゴグ（竹ガムラン）の演奏が入っていることは とても重要な意味を持っているように思える。このトラックは本シリーズのコンセプトを凝縮したものであり、JUZU a.k.a MOOCHYが長年探求してきたものの 現段階における最高の成果だろう。かたやSIDE Yの「LOVE FROM FAR EAST」は、本シリーズのひとつの着地点を示すものでもある。 さまざまな旅路を経ての「LOVE」、そこに込められたメッセージ――。このトラックに関してはあまり言葉を費やすべきではないだろう。 美しく、深く、優しいこのトラックを聴きながら、あなたは何を感じるだろうか？

After a long sojourn, a true Asiatic, aural nomad and supremely passionate musical alchemist, Tokyo-based producer/ DJ, owner of the label, Crosspoint, Moochy a.k.a. J.A.K.A.M. (Juzu A.K.A. Moochy), has arisen once again, with quite a unique project for 2015 entitled, Counterpoint.

Starting from January, on the 11th of each month until September, Crosspoint will be releasing a 2 track single (mostly on either 12" or 7" vinyl format) of new material produced by J.A.K.A.M. For this endeavor, Crosspoint is collaborating with Toyokasei, the main Japanese vinyl pressing plant. Tracks included in these monthly singles will also be released on various digital sites as well.

Since releasing his last album, Re:Momentos "Movements" 4 years ago, J.A.K.A.M. has traveled the world, to a wide range of regions such as the Middle East, Latin America and African continents, absorbing as much of the esoteric vibes in each culture and heritage as possible, and also collaborating with many local musicians. This new project, Counterpoint is the fruits of his eclectic musical journey. Each EPs are J.A.K.A.M.'s postcards from the edge, enthralled in potent sonic stimulus and messages, aimed at penetrating the deep consciousness.

In Counterpoint, J.A.K.A.M. delivers his unique take on a new tangent, a genuine fusion of "counter point" musical integration that intertwines the diverse cultures with his Far-Eastern heritage and his own ever-evolving, refined, signature musical philosophy. Connecting the dots as only he can, this project tries to place a new "counter point", a new point of reference where a genuine evolutionary, creative energy reigns supreme.

The final phase of J.A.K.A.M.'s grand project is drawn to an elegant conclusion with this E.P. that epitomizes the concept of Counterpoint. J.A.K.A.M.'s aim was to draw his prism like DNA of creating dance music with not only musicians in Japan and in Asia but also to the unfound brothers and sisters in every corner of the world.

A grand intro performed by the masterful Egyptian violin playing of Abd Dagher, Tonkori of OKI, Ney (an Arab flute instrument) blown by Yakaza Ensemble's Fakih Kademoglu, Jegog (a bamboo gamelan) percussion of Suar Agung kicks off Earth Dance. An epic, wistful piece which also features the percussion of Sabar recorded in Senegal and Moroccan Qraqab of Toshihito Tsushima and the most exquisite blend of the vibrant music styles of Africa, Maghrib, Arab, Turkey, Indonesia, Ainu cultures. In Earth Dance, one can imagine and feel the inherent vibes of all Tribes that exist throughout the world, when they celebrate and dance.

Mystical as the sun rising from the East and sensual as an Arabic belly dancer's moves, Love From Far East is an ode to Arabic Andalous Music with its spirit being catapulted into this century with another masterful and unheralded blend of Cuban multi-instrumentalist, Eudys Morales' groovy stand-up bass, Kyoko Oikawa's sensuous Arabic violin refrain, Takehide "KIDS" Hashimoto's sax and Sanshin of Arito "NU-DOH" Kakinohana. Floating between a dream state and reality, Love From Far East is a modern, exotic songstress, trying to transcend through all cultures, some much needed love vibrations and eternal beauty.

2010年にリリースされたアルバム「Juzu Presents Re:Momentos "Movements"」から5年、 JUZU a.k.a.MOOCHYのJ.A.K.A.M.名義での渾身のソロ作品、 怒涛の9か月連続アナログリリース、ついに最終版が9/11にリリース！！


シリーズ最終章の今作は、自身の作り出すダンスミュージックが持つ色鮮やかなDNAを、 日本、アジアは勿論、地球のあらゆる場所に存在するまだ見ぬ兄弟姉妹へ呼びかけ、 牽引する力強さと軽やかさを持つ極上の2曲となっています。

SIDE Xの“EARTH DANCE”では、今回のシリーズに何度も登場するア イヌの魂を届けるOKIの、レゲエのVIBEとセクシーさを持つトンコリの音色、 同じく今回のシリーズの重要な参加者アラブヴァイオリニスト及川景子の師匠である、 80歳を超えるエジプトが生んだ最高の芸術家の一人であるヴァイオリニスト、 アブドゥ・ダーゲルの艶めかしい弦の響き、そしてトルコ、イスタンブールの 先鋭ワールドミュージックバンドYAKAZA ENSEMBLEのメンバーである ファキアが吹くネイ（中東全般で聴かれる尺八の原型と言われる）の郷愁感ある調べ、 そして西アフリカのセネガルで録音されたパーカッション・サバールと モロッコのカルカベの高音リズム、そしてインドネシア、バリはネグラ地方で録音された 巨大竹ガムラン・ジェゴグ（その最高峰グループ、スアールアグンの演奏！）のベース等が絡み合い、 あらゆるTRIBE＝部族が踊り続けてきた様子が目に浮かぶような、 怒涛のダンスチューンとなっています！

こちらのMIXは、JUZU a.k.a. MOOCHY本人が担当。ダンスフロアはもとより、 数々の野外レイヴで人々を踊らせてきた者だからこそ見える、 パワフルな仕上がりとなっています。

反対面SIDE Yの“LOVE FROM FAR EAST”は、 2005年にリリースされた J.A.K.A.M.のファーストアルバム「MOMENTOS」からの重要人物である、 キューバのグァンタナモ在住のマルチプレイヤー、 Eudys Moralesが弾くDOPE なウッドベース、 及川景子が奏でるアラブヴァイオリンの艶めかしい旋律、 Trial Production等で活躍するKIDSのホーンセクション、 そしてDUBSTEPユニット、 Churashima Navigatorのひとりである沖縄出身／在住のNU-DOHが奏でる 三線の響きが混然一体となり、夢と現（うつつ）を行き来するかのようなシリーズの中でも異色かつ、 タイトルにある「LOVE」を伝えるエキゾチックな楽曲となっています。

それはまるでスペインのアンダルシア地方などがオスマントルコ時代、 イスラムの影響下で治められていた時代に生まれた音楽、 「アラブ・アンダルース」のように、宗教を超え（実はイスラム教は本来他宗教に寛容であった）、 民族の文化が解け合った、新しくも懐かしい様な美しい楽曲となっています。

あらゆるクラブミュージック好きはもちろん、
アラブ音楽やラテン音楽好きにまでアピールできる要素を持った 最後を飾るにふさわしい、キラーなダンスホールチューンになっています。

こちらのMIXはMasters At Work/NUYORICAN SOUL等で幅広く知られる “Little” Louie Vegaの専属エンジニアである Yas Inoueが担当。
多民族都市ニューヨークでの長年の仕事から培った ドリーミーでDOPEな極上の仕上がりとなっています。


自身のレーベルCROSSPOINTを主宰し、 世界各地でのDJやLIVE、 そして数々のリミックスワークやプロデュース業をこなしながら、 世界の様々な場所へ自ら赴き、現地のミュージシャン達とのコラボレーションから 誰も聴いたことの無い音世界を構築してきたJ.A.K.A.M.ですが、 今シリーズは今までの流れを継承／内包しつつ、 今まで以上に想像力を掻き立てる境地へ突入した、 まさにワン&オンリーな作品が仕上がりました。


そこには J.A.K.A.M.自身の”地球人”的な視野の広さと洞察、 そして強い思いが込められています。
COUNTERPOINT＝対位法（独立に進行する二つ以上の旋律を同時に結合させる作曲技術）を タイトルに掲げて作り出されたこのシリーズですが、この言葉が本来持つ意味に留まらず、 そこから想像できるこの世に存在するあらゆる”対位”を音楽のなかでで 融合／結合させる事に果敢に挑み続ける自身の姿勢は ある意味昔から現在まで変わりませんが、このシリーズでその表現がより強力にそして大きく、 しなやかになっていったのは明らかです。

音や世界への探究心が結実した、現在進行形の特濃ダンスミュージック！
両サイドともに地球規模で広がる民族（音楽）回帰のインスパイアとなることは間違いありません！
